How a lesson room works

  • Ages 5 years and up

Staff checks and training

  • Background checks
  • CPR and first aid
  • Mandated reporter training

Safety routines

  • Windows and open doors

Each lesson room has a window in its door, or the door stays open.

  • Parents may sit in

A parent is welcome at any lesson. The hall outside has a bench.

  • Who may collect a student

We hand a student only to the adults on your pickup list, and ask for ID from anyone we do not know.

  • When a student is ill

A student with a fever stays home. Tell us by text or a call and we will plan a make-up.

Family policies

Photos of your child

We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.

When to keep your child home

A student with a fever or a cough stays home. Tell us by text or a call, and we will offer the time to the waitlist or a make-up where we can.

Closures for weather and holidays

The studio closes for the winter holidays, a week in late summer and national holidays. We tell families about any other closure at least a week ahead, in writing.

Drop-off and pickup

Parents of younger students collect them at the door of the lesson room. We hand a student only to the adults on your pickup list and ask for ID from anyone we do not know. Teens may leave on their own if you tell us in writing.

Watching class and recitals

A parent is welcome to sit in on any lesson, and the hall has a bench for waiting. At a recital, we ask families to silence phones and hold applause until the end of each piece.

Leaving the program

We ask for a month's notice before a student stops, so the time can go to a family on the waitlist.

What to wear and bring

Wear what is comfortable at the bench. For a recital, concert dress is whatever the student feels good in. There is no uniform.

Screens and phones

Phones stay in a bag during a lesson, except when a teacher asks to record a practice note for the student.

Questions about how we work?

Ask at the placement visit, or call during lesson hours.
